ABSTRACT

The chapter highlights some important innovations facilitated by the Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program (CFLRP). CFLRP is set up to provide long-term commitment and flexibility, which are often cited as keys to making collaboration effective. CFLRP could provide on-the-job training for staff who will be working on the kinds of initiatives because there is a history of lessons and experienced staff who can help mentor and train. Ultimately, some of the most pressing problems facing federal lands will increasingly require more collaboration rather than less. In the context of the CFLRP, well-defined collaborative roles led to improved relationships and a number of broader benefits that were predicted by scholarship and have been confirmed through the research. In their national survey, Schultz and McIntyre found that these efforts under the CFLRP have strengthened collaborative relationships.
