What Do the Actors Say?
Most actors, particularly good actors, are intelligent, sensitive, and articulate. They usually have an unerring instinct about what is right for their characters and for themselves as actors. There are directors in the theatre as well as directors in film who are auteurs who make the play or film about their vision. And there are others who collaborate and are interested in the actors' vision as well. Normally directors act like patriarchs and they treat actors like children— they treat us like big father. As a rule, actors don't like to talk about how they do what they do. They tend to keep it to themselves. Although film actors are most often contractually required to do specific personal appearances to promote the opening of a current project, the purpose is to charm their audience and sell the picture so we rarely hear about craft.
