ABSTRACT

Science centres need authentic engagement on the issue of multiculturalism. They do not acknowledge that many visitors begin with a negative relationship with Western Science, one rooted in the historical realities of the appropriation, violence, and oppression inflicted on Indigenous peoples and other minority groups. The focus on communicating only the positives of Western Science puts science centres at a disadvantage in their efforts to better serve and engage individuals from marginalized communities. Despite the challenges, there have been a number of efforts by science centres to broaden the narrative of science to include non-Western scientific legacies and achievements.
