ABSTRACT

This is a revised chapter. I return to the idea of the power of visual metaphors to reflect and affect teacher identity development. Metaphors of teacher self are defined and theorized, and then four new images created by 2016 participants will be the focus of the chapter. Attention is paid to particular relationships of millennials to images and media. Conclusions state that the metaphors expressed by the participants are deep or root metaphors that allow them to examine aspects of their teacher selves that narratives did not. The visual metaphors seemed even more powerful, as the millennial participants were more accustomed to thinking of self through visual, often electronically generated, forms.
