ABSTRACT

This chapter looks briefly at a few specific types of businesses that benefit in major ways, generally overlooked and unrecognized as being part of the industry. Local banks can benefit in numerous ways. Some banks offer production loans or lines of credit based on pre-sales agreements and contracts executed between the producer and the distributor. In a negative pickup, a producer has a signed agreement with a studio or distributor that they will purchase his/her completed film at a specific time for a specific price. To receive incentives, a production only receives the tax credits after the production is complete and all production expenditures are filed. Security companies, off-duty police officers, and military veterans get a big boost from entertainment production. Film production insurance is a foundation of the industry. The law profession cuts a wide swath through the entertainment industry. Working as an entertainment attorney requires a law degree, but not a specific law specialty.
