ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how pupils might be grouped for pastoral care; and discusses the importance of the form tutor to the pupils. It discusses the role of the form tutor and what teachers might do as a form tutor on a weekly basis, as well as on a less frequent basis, e.g. termly and/or when necessary. The chapter examines the importance of safeguarding pupils and describes the importance of preparing for tutor time; the attributes and skills of a good form tutor. The role of a form tutor is pivotal in the running of a school and the well-being of pupils within the school. In essence, a good form tutor gathers knowledge of each pupil within their tutor group, forms strong and positive relationships with each pupil and their parent(s)/guardian(s) and builds a cohesive and supportive team ethos within the tutor group.
