ABSTRACT
The best way to get an idea of how a jir works, of the cases it handles, and its methods of handling them, is to follow through a single day in MbaDuku jir, to analyse the cases, and trace out the events. I have selected the jir held on 3 August 1952, because, although representative, it contains rather more colourful cases than usual.
