ABSTRACT

Human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation presents an ongoing and increasing issue globally, particularly for transnational policing. In addition, the huge expansion of the Internet in recent years has created new opportunities for traffickers to exploit victims, enabling offenders to more easily transcend national and international boundaries. This has created a Pandora’s box of new challenges for policing in relation to the facilitation of sex work trafficking, yet the area remains relatively under-researched. This chapter presents a synthesis of current research into the transnational policing of online sex trafficking, while examining key challenges and identifying areas in urgent need of reform.
