ABSTRACT

The first, and most important, factor in whether a lesson succeeds is down to one thing: how well the children behave. One reason that good behaviour is central to good learning is because schools teach more than just subjects. Some people find the idea of children being ‘obedient’ challenging to accept. In a well-ordered classroom, when a teacher gives an instruction, children will follow it, first time, and without undue pausing, questioning, or argument. Having worked in a number of different schools, it’s worth making a point about school context and how much that plays into what people do in the classroom. Especially in the strictest schools, positivity is massively important. The most important rule of behaviour management is to follow people school’s behaviour policy. Remember always that no child is ‘horrible.’ Schools should never stop making behaviour a priority.
