ABSTRACT

The European Union (UN) has a firm commitment around the world for the promotion of human rights. The High Representative and the European Commission issued a joint communication on the elements for a new EU strategy on China on June 22, 2016. In 2016, the EU's foreign direct investment into China amounted to roughly 16 percent of the total foreign direct investment inflows. Germany is one of China's top ten foreign investors nearly doubling its foreign direct investment and it has focused heavily on its very capital intense automotive industry. In 2016, the UK contributed roughly 1 percent of China's total foreign direct investment. According to King & Wood Mallesons, the global law firm in London, foreign direct investment from the UK to China totalled almost 6.7 billion pounds in asset stocks in 2016 and the firm expects that to increase to 26 billion pounds by 2020.
