ABSTRACT

In Dream Sociometry, while opposition refers primarily to a placement pattern in the Dream Sociogram, it also indicates the relationship of positive and negative net scores in the Dream Sociomatrix. When scores are plotted in the Dream Sociogram another form of intrasocial ambivalence becomes evident. Bipolar oppositions observed in the Dream Sociogram can be balanced or unbalanced. Opposition is meant to be a global and value-neutral term that refers to placement patterns that may or may not involve bipolar distributions of dream elements on the four Dream Sociogram axes. In Learning to Fly, there are two clusters on the Acceptance axis: Dream Self and Guys and Petit Jean and Field. Bipolar opposition on the Acceptance axis is most likely to be indicative of self-criticism and problems with self-esteem. Opposition on the Process axis is extremely common in the series of Dream Sociograms.
