ABSTRACT

Stoppers are filler materials that are used to fill pinholes and sanding scratches as well as very slight undulations in a panel. They were traditionally single-pack. There are many different types of foundation material, and each has a very particular job to do. Some are used for adhesion, some for flexibility, and some for corrosion resistance through chemical protection or waterproofing. All fillers should be sanded dry – this is due to fillers being porous, so if they are flatted with water, they will soak it up, and it will become trapped under the fillers, causing corrosion and adhesion problems. Stoppers are filler materials that are used to fill pinholes and sanding scratches as well as very slight undulations in a panel. They were traditionally single-pack. Most stoppers used today are two-pack and are basically very dense fillers. This gives the advantages of a more stable foundation material than single-pack stoppers, less shrinkage, faster drying times and dry sanding compatibility.
