ABSTRACT

The preparation of vehicle panels is arguably as important to the overall appearance of the vehicle as the final finish of the top coat. It is therefore very important to choose the correct tools, materials and equipment for the job at hand. When using a dual action sander to prepare a panel for top coat, it is important to consider the shape of the panel. This is true whether using an interface pad or not. The most precise way to shape primer at the preparation for top coat stage is with the use of an extracted block. Of course flatting blocks are used to shape filler too. Guide coats are available as a dry powder applied by sponge and a dry powder applied by aerosol; although not officially a guide coat, satin black paint is often used from an aerosol.
