ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the theme of the Commonwealth and its institutions and considers the role of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration as a powerful and dynamic resource for educational advance. The Commonwealth is concerned with and for people: concerned to help people help themselves, to strive to strengthen those global links and to make full use of the great potential which is inherent in those more than one billion people in fifty countries. The light from that 'multi-faceted crystal' is reflected, refracted through the global network by the Commonwealth Secretariat which helps to turn ideas, schemes, resolutions into reality through its various agencies. The Foundation role was to promote closer professional cooperation within the Commonwealth and its mandate was extended in 1979 to include non-Government and voluntary organizations. The network concept is strengthened through Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration’s links within the family of the Organization of Commonwealth Associations associated with the Commonwealth Foundation.
