ABSTRACT

Public relations covers all those who 'buy' a school's 'products'. These are staff and students, parents, employers, government and fellow citizens. Public relations includes more than just attractive prospectuses and advertising videos. It needs analysis of what a school's markets are and what they want. Governors can lend support to senior management who are helping staff adjust to accepting that marketing and public relations can be valuable. If governor receive a letter from school or read a press report which particularly pleases or displeases governor, tell the principal or the member of staff responsible for public relations. Public relations is generally much more positive than the final example. The Annual Parents' Meeting is a revolutionary innovation. The Annual Governors' Report (AGR) should be written by the governors and it should be a report on what the governors have done to manage the school over the previous year.
