ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to help governor to decide where governor can best contribute to the stages of planning for product management. The stages of development planning are recall of governor school's purposes; setting goals; conducting an audit; selecting the targets; planning progress towards the targets; disseminating the plan; adjusting the plan; and reviewing achievements. The governors' role is likely to be looking at the targets suggested by staff and commenting on how realistic they seem. The chapter discusses how governors can help with the planning for their school's learning activities but as educative leaders, governors can also plan their own curriculum. Governors can then discover for themselves the advantages and disadvantages of planning and appreciate better the planning processes in which their schools engage. The chapter makes the process sound very organised and may seem to assume that planning can be fully operational as soon as a discussion is completed and a document produced with aims and targets.
