ABSTRACT

Derek Esp was, until recently, Director of Education for Lincolnshire. Prior to this he served as Youth Service Training and Developmental Officer, Assistant Education Officer and Deputy Chief Education Officer in a number of LEAs. He has studied headteacher training in Europe and until recently, chaired an international OECD research programme concerned with headteachers and their role in school improvement and effectiveness. A former regional chairperson of the Society of Education Officers and member of its national executive, Derek Esp is now National Chairperson of the British Education Management and Administration Society (BEMAS). He lectures extensively and has been a contributor to other educational publications.
