ABSTRACT
Michael Eraut is Professor of Education and Chairman of the Continuing and Professional Area at the University of Sussex. His research into in-service education goes back some 20 years, with a continuing emphasis on school-based development and its facilitation by INSET courses and consultancy. Throughout this period, he has been interested in innovative course designs, linking courses with schools in new and productive ways. More recently, he has given increasing attention to problems of evaluating INSET in ways that do not neglect the interests of pupils. He has been specifically involved in management training since 1981.
