ABSTRACT

The Second World War proved to be a dramatic watershed in education. In the congenital model, leaders are born rather than fashioned by the environment. The strength of this model is that it allows the energies of society to focus on finding the necessary leaders rather than creating or training them. Brameld, T. felt it necessary to encourage a resurgence of leadership among teachers both inside and outside the school; the kind of leadership required was creative, audacious, directive, convergent, committed, con fronting, involved and controlling. Leadership for many people precludes the involvement of organization members in the ways implied by the use of the word 'participation'. One of the most striking features of contemporary life in schools is the yawning gap between the needs and demands of organization and the capacity of any one individual to meet them. Leadership should be identified with the routine organizational day as well as with the events which call for significant initiatives.
