ABSTRACT

This chapter considers three examples from the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors where these qualities have helped to enhance the educational experience of the learners concerned. It highlights a particular aspect of successful school/college management in each case, which contributes significantly to the 'whole success' of a school or college. Canklow Woods School serves a council estate, in a deprived area of Rotherham with few private homes. The school's application for funding for the project was successful; local education authority and external funding was provided for a home-school liaison teacher for 2½ years. The liaison teacher would mirror the school in listening to problems, and then indicate to parents how and where they could be solved, rather than trying to solve them herself. It was decided that the role would have three main thrusts: individual case work, inter-agency and parents' room activity, and enriching the curriculum through parental help.
