ABSTRACT

It is an essential step to evaluate the satellite-based precipitation products before the massive scale use. In this study, we evaluated the GPM IMERG precipitation product using gauge observations in the Yangtze River Basin from April 2014 to October 2014. Results show that: (1) the monthly-scale IMERG shows better performance than the daily-scale IMERG; (2) In daily scale, the June, July and August have lower C but higher ME and Bias than other months; (3) Out of the three streams of the Yangtze River, IMERG shows good performance at upstream in monthly scale. This study shows that the IMERG precipitation estimates are useful for stream-flow simulation in the Yangtze River basin. And it also provides a new view to on the precipitation evaluation.
