ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the contentious issue of ‘reach’ versus ‘impact’ with relation to research dissemination. Research impact is seen as a way of measuring the social, cultural, or political significance of the research undertaken, the amount of income generated, or how the outcomes have generated change. Data verbalization’ has generated an infinite number of possibilities to generate significant reach and impact, alongside building an audience of followers who can access the work through phones, screens, and headphones. Data verbalization is an ideal conduit for action learning as it can enable individuals to grasp and engage with complex ideas in a simplified form. Action learning expressed through engaging with data verbalization can offer significant possibilities in the building and shaping awareness for communities involved in transformative activities.
