ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview and introduction to data analytics. Data analytics refers to the process of examining datasets, or raw data, to make inferences and draw conclusions. Data analytics is used by researchers across a wide variety of disciplines and fields of study including business and management, retail, education, politics, travel and tourism, health and medicine, geography and the computer sciences. Useful resources and references are provided below for those who are interested in finding out more about data analytics for their research. It is also important to read more about the various types of data analytics and the different ways of undertaking data analytics. Real-time analytics accesses data as soon as they enter the system. It enables organisations or researchers to view live data such as page views, website navigation or shopping cart use. It can also be called dynamic analytics or on-demand analytics, although there are subtle differences in the terms.
