ABSTRACT

Audio analysis is a term that is used to describe the study of audio content. There are different types, terms and/or methods of audio analysis that are used within different disciplines and fields of study and for different purposes. Audio sensors and software can be used to recognise, analyse and react to sounds and events such as windows smashing, smoke alarms, voices of intruders, anomaly detection or babies crying. There is a vast array of tools and software for audio analysis, with differing functions, capabilities, purposes and costs. Some are aimed at biologists who specialise in a particular animal, some are aimed at those who want to view and analyse the contents of music audio files and others are aimed at researchers who are interested in calculating various psychoacoustic parameters or those wanting to use automatic speaker recognition software.
