ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book introduces the theoretical framework of the ontological turn, vibrant materialism, and discusses the paradigmatic shift that is occurring in academia as a result of these ideas. It deals specifically with some of the problems with how we currently do social science. The book includes the traditional ethnographic practice. It explores quantum philosophy and considers how the metaphysics of entanglement is being demonstrated as reality in physics labs. The book discusses the phenomena of diffraction, and how one might think with diffraction in social science research. It also discusses the implications of the ontological turn specifically on environmental practices, and the problems of the Anthropocene. The academic audience for the book also includes methodologists from a wide variety of disciplines, such as art, dance, performance studies, anthropology, sociology, environmental studies, communication studies, multicultural and women's studies, queer studies, and field philosophy.
