ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the solving of business-related problems requires additional understanding and tools. Solving problems using root cause analysis is possible by using a two-step methodology. The first step is to seek the true root cause by repeatedly asking the question why. The second step is to ask questions about the object’s purpose by using the purpose expansion. The application of advanced understanding and useful tools to solve challenging problems is the fundamental purpose of the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction industry. The Measure stage consists of developing measurements to better understand the magnitude of the problem. The Analyze stage focuses on getting to the root cause of the problem. The Improve stage develops ways to solve the problem. The Kaizen methodology sees every aspect of the organization as an opportunity to improve. Each member of the organization is encouraged to contribute ideas for improvements.
