ABSTRACT

The United States military has always been labeled as an authoritarian, top-down leadership style, and that label is appropriate when it comes to command decisions during a time of crisis or combat. Leadership was quick to assure them that the funding would be available and that the directive to make the changes is coming from the highest levels of the Air Force. The leadership of the organization must develop and maintain a focus on a clear vision and maintain the support of the organization in a united effort to realizing that vision. A great leadership team can turn around a failing organization and develop it into a successful enterprise that employees can be excited to be a part of. A common misconception about leadership is that a title or position is what makes an individual a leader. Active involvement builds unity and demonstrates the leader’s commitment to the organization’s mission and achievement of strategic objectives.
