ABSTRACT

The de-rig occurs at the end of an event, which is why a venue manager must remain attentive – and sober – throughout the event. In addition, de-rigs are often hazardous, with equipment being dismantled as quickly as possible because the crew have finished the event and just want to get home. The de-rig, however, comes after elements have been used and guests have departed. The de-rig – that is the breaking-down of an event – should not ever commence until after all guests have exited the venue. The venue manager must not allow a client, event organiser or technical crew to commence the de-rig before all guests have left. Only in the situation of a 'turn-around' does a de-rig commence while guests are in the venue. A turn-around occurs when a room is used for dual purposes and is changed into another format so that the event can continue.
