ABSTRACT

If a building is constructed for the purpose of events (dedicated venue) it is reasonable to assume that its primary source of income will be from the business of events. Any venue which is now considering events to be their sole or primary income stream must have the facilities, manpower and expertise in-house to meet client and guest expectations and needs. The volume of events will be at a level which generates the primary income, so it follows that the venue will be well equipped and staffed to manage events. The infrastructure of a venue may be good to go, and the management and staff may have abilities in security, venue management, staffing and crowd management. Venue managers must be cautious when receiving enquiries from events outside their usual remit, even if their venue can accommodate the booking. Overstretching a field of expertise into another field, such as another type of event, can convert venue strengths into their weaknesses.
