ABSTRACT

The drawback to the growth and diversity of event venues is that clients and their guests are more at risk of being exposed to venues which are unprofessional or inexperienced at managing events. In the traditional environment of events being staged in hotels and purpose-built dedicated venues, such as conference centres, the client may have justly felt that their event would be in safe hands. After all, most reputable hotels are experienced in the organisation of events. Hotels, restaurants and venues form the hospitality service industry and it is largely self-regulated or unregulated. Lack of training in events management, plus inexperience of organising and running events, is still the problem. But, all the time there is better and more available training for people working in events. Events management has evolved in to a bona fide and recognised career choice. Venue managers must not underestimate the importance of good housekeeping.
