ABSTRACT

There are venues which are obliged to host events even if they do not really wish to. It is as if they are forced into hosting events simply because there is a demand for them to do so. Demand could be a one-off enquiry for using the premises for an event, or it could be repetitive because the venue has some attraction, such as interesting architecture or is at a prominent location. Such venues and their staff can consider events as an interruption to the core business. The key to good venue management is good interdepartmental communication. Informal communication and team-work techniques such as staff social events are implemented not just for fun, but to get departments interacting with each other. 'Nudging' staff members to interact through social activities helps people get along. They begin to understand each other, appreciate their individualism and identify like-minded colleagues outside the physical barriers of working within departments.
