ABSTRACT

Operational procedures are those which occur on the day of the event, the onsite procedures or onsite logistics. The venue manager must act like the concierge of an excellent hotel: knowing from where to source all needs. The client may not be local, and in any case may not be experienced in managing events, whereas the venue manager has these two important advantages. Because the planning of the event would have been undertaken during the lead-in period, every aspect which is to occur on the day of the event is anticipated and expected. Therefore, the main activity for the venue manager on the day of an event, is checking. A venue manager should be in a position to draft assistance from one area of the venue to another; from one department to another so as to alleviate a problem. It is important for a venue manager to remain available for all areas and oversee the running of an event.
