ABSTRACT

Nanette is a first-generation college student. I first met Nanette after she was hired as a student worker in the department where I worked at the university. Serendipitously, later Nanette was randomly selected as a participant in a study I was conducting on the experiences of Black college-age women (this is an example of how small so-called research sample pools are for students of color on campus, which indicates another limitation of scientific research protocols).
