ABSTRACT

This chapter revisits Goa’s villages as first or second homes for urban South Asians and Westerners. As cities like Delhi and Kolkata become more congested with people and things, certain mobile individuals are choosing a different way of life in Goa. It is a search for interiority in an increasingly fast-paced world, and a ‘lifestyle’ choice involving romantic indulgence in Goa’s Portuguese colonial past, which in turn is tied to its positionality as an internal exotic in India.
