ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the active and passive techniques used for the sampling of pesticides in the air (gas and particles phases) and in precipitation. These techniques are illustrated by figures and by references.

In the second part, techniques commonly used for the extraction of pesticides from air matrices are described; they include, Soxhlet, Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE), Solid Phase Extraction, Solid Phase Micro-Extraction (SPME). Special attention is devoted to thermal desorption, techniques which can be used for the evaluation of soil/air transfer of pesticides.

The third part describes the main techniques used for the analysis of pesticides in air including gas and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.
