ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasises the importance of submitting prompt notices, with backup details, as soon as specialist subcontractors see that they are likely to be delayed, disrupted and/or incur additional costs. The subcontract conditions oblige specialist subcontractors to do so. Furthermore, it is only fair to all concerned that problems should be identified early on, so that joint action can be discussed to overcome them. Despite all the well-meaning reports and expressions of collaboration that we have seen in the intervening period, it is incredibly frustrating and sad to see the same line being trotted out by Contractors today! Once upon a time there was a nice blue-chip oil company who employed a Specialist Subcontractor to install lots and lots of steelwork.
