ABSTRACT

The general state of Dickensian bibliography is deplorable. Given the enormous number and variety of editions of his individual, collected, and selected works, it is now doubtful that anything resembling a comprehensive primary bibliography of CD's works would be possible. What is possible, desperately needed, and probably more desirable, is a selective, collated, primary bibliography of first and early editions of CD's works, in their various serial and volume publications and their major subsequent editions. Of the entries in the following section, a few give accurate publication data for CD's works, and the balance are essays on topics of bibliographical interest and checklists of BR's illustrations.
