ABSTRACT

Acknowledging that cities are called to be leaders in climate action, this book discusses how local governments are acting on this call. Specifically, it endeavours to understand how cities are responding to the causes and impacts of climate change within the remit of local governments. This chapter presents the climate change impacts faced by cities. From this follows a discussion of the role of cities in responding. Resilience being the objective of global responses, it is discussed and explored in the context of cities. Finally, an outline of the book is presented.
