ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a proposal for an Action Research project designed to create opportunities for children to form friendships by developing positive social interactions in an inclusive Danish preschool. Key concepts such as inclusive education – understood here as a process that aims to foster the active participation and empowerment of all students – and Action Research as a research design based on reflective practice, democracy and transformative action are presented. The chapter also explores how Action Research can help in developing inclusive practices by giving teachers and students a chance to establish a reciprocal relationship based on equality of opportunities, multiple perspectives and communication for bringing about change and enhancing students’ participation. Some of the potential outcomes of this project are to improve opportunities for all children to be heard and participate to the fullest in the community as well as an increase of positive communication and feedback between teachers.
