ABSTRACT

In this pivotal chapter of the book, we will work practically towards formulating our Big Question – the societal issue we would like to help solve – using three of the ‘9 Questions’: societal needs, our interests and our skills.

There are three distinct – and very different – parts:

Understanding our own interests and values, and identifying societal needs we are interested in helping address – sections 4 and 5.

Learning to use our Career Transformational Assets – self-knowledge, openness to new experiences, and building strategic and dynamic networks – to find out if and how this could be possible – sections 6–9.

Practising formulating our Big Question – section 10.

As the pivotal chapter, it is longish, mainly due to many executives’ stories illustrating key aspect of the Discovery process and the inclusion of some exercises in sections 4 and 5.

A quick read-through is recommended, then a return to pick exercises that appeal to you, depending on where you are on your Discovery journey – or design your own inspired by your reading. Do what feels right for you.
