ABSTRACT
Switches and routers provide a range of distance transmission services including Carrier Ethernet, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), as well as traditional telephone transmission facilities. Pocket Data Network Gateway (PGW) provides connectivity from the smartphone User equipment (UE) to external packet data networks by being the point of exit from the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) mobile network to local and national networks and the entry for traffic directed to the UE mobile device. The PGW performs policy enforcement, packet filtering for each user, charging support, lawful interception, and packet screening. Another key role of the PGW is to act as the anchor for mobility between 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and non-3GPP technologies such as World Wide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and 3GPP, code division multiple access, and Evolution-Data Optimized. A principle power of cloud computing is that a widely dispersed cluster of cloud data centres can be operated at one large centre.
