ABSTRACT

Ethical dilemmas, it seems, lurk around every professional corner, and becoming skilled at the complex behaviors needed to manage them effectively may seem elusive. Issues such as dicey authorship questions, how research presentations should be done, dataset control and collection issues, and data analysis errors and problems that come with non-significant results are just some of the ethical topics typically faced. This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book looks at the role of trust, and perhaps it is the most essentially relational construct people have in ethics – relationships are fundamentally about trust. Being transparent in academic work has many manifestations among all three of the essential work components of research, teaching, and professional life. Transparency in ethical behaviors means a proactive willingness to share what may not be obvious or visually apparent.
