ABSTRACT

The technological singularity, or simply the singularity hypothesis, argues that humanity is headed toward the creation of artificial superintelligence in the form of accelerating self-improvement-capable computers running software-based general artificial intelligence, destined to ultimately far surpass human intelligence. The explosion in the variety of data and the growing interest in analytics have fueled ‘mass production’ of a wide array of data analytic outcomes, ranging from simple summative reports to sophisticated predictive models. The risks associated with data ownership notwithstanding, organizational data holdings are not only a potential asset – they are a centerpiece of a thriving industry encompassing capture and storage hardware, manipulation and reporting software, and exploration-focused consulting. Business Intelligence encompasses technologies, applications, and practices for the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of business information derived from the available data, with the purpose of supporting better business decision-making.
