ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a summary of the respective domains of wellbeing by region. Young Sami people and children are proud to be Sami; they have great respect for their culture and take an active responsibility to ensure the preservation of their language and traditions. The Inuit in Canada have faced dramatic and rapid changes in ways of life and livelihoods, including land dispossession, and environmental changes that are disrupting their ability to practice and participate in traditional, land-based activities. Research conducted on the employment income of Canadas Indigenous peoples demonstrates the explanatory significance of human and social capital as measures of wellbeing. A review on the measurement of subjective wellbeing among Aboriginal peoples of Canada demonstrated an underdeveloped and restricted understanding of the perceptions of life satisfaction and happiness in these Native populations.
