ABSTRACT

After three decades of continuous economic reforms, Viet Nam has achieved high economic growth. Since 2015, VietNam has been promoting productivity as the key pillar for sustainable growth and avoidance of the middle-income trap. Viet Nam joined the Berne Convention on copyrights in 2004. Per the agreement, copyright protection should be enforced for at least 50 years from publication for cinematographic works, photographic works, dramatic works, works of applied art and anonymous works, and at least 50 years after the death of the author for other works. By 2016, foreign investors seeking to operate in Viet Nam can have various legitimate options to register and enforce intellectual property rights in Viet Nam. Patents may be individually registered in Viet Nam. While well-known trademarks are already recognised, Viet Nam is committed – together with other Trans-Pacific Partnership parties – to refrain from using visually perceptible signs as a necessary condition for protection.
