ABSTRACT

The chapter examines the introduction of socio-technical systems (STSs) in engineering education and the practical management of these projects in higher education. The chapter draws from the theoretical paradigms of STS and provides practical guidance on the design and implementation projects as STS in an attempt to make engineering education more relevant to society and communities. The chapter will illustrate the value of multidisciplinary involvement in STS projects and their sustainability. These projects reposition the role of universities in addressing the social responsibility of higher education institutions, and this requires new and innovative institutional frameworks and models.
