ABSTRACT

RECYBETON demonstrated the feasibility of recycling concrete into concrete at all rates, from 0% to 100% of the concrete aggregate phase. A global assessment of all engineering properties of recycled concrete aggregates was performed, showing that even if recycled aggregate (RA) slightly alter the material owing to their porosity, any common set of specifications for structural concrete can be addressed with RA, even at high rate. In the future, more efficient processing of RA could reach a better separation between the original virgin aggregate from its cementitious matrix, providing to the concrete industry a renovated aggregate keeping all its original characteristics. Available results from R&D allow updating many standards and codes, in order to foster the loop of recycling concrete into concrete.
