ABSTRACT

The ability to travel light – or shed excess mental baggage – is vital during your journey through sport. For example, consider the case of Pete Sampras, a 14-times grand slam tennis champion, who won Wimbledon in 1999 with an ace on his second serve in the final against Andre Agassi. After the match, Sampras was asked what had been going through his mind at that stage. His answer was extraordinary, ‘There was absolutely nothing going on in my mind at that time.’ 1
