ABSTRACT

As long as the information exchange runs well and an open web of communication is maintained, new people and new groups will feel easily involved there is then the basis for teamworking. Communication, the passing on of experience and information, is a basic feature of such a group, and necessary for team-working. Perhaps the most common and the most intensive way of learning is through self-education. Much non-formal education is done by people themselves for themselves, true self-education, by reading and studying nature. Youth organisations promoting outdoor recreation, such as hiking and youth hostelling, often include in their programme a large element of conservation. Camps and courses are traditionally the main activity of many youth organisations, at local, regional, national and international levels. The biggest obstacle in youth environmental action is its own success. Involvement in youth environmental organisations is for everybody a major and effective educational experience so effective, that people leave and are lost to the movement.
