ABSTRACT

Distribution is a fundamental, but often over looked, aspect of transmedia content. Transmedia strategies highlight the multiplication of how, where, and when audiences access content, changes that have spread across the media industries. Such changes, however, have built on well-established industry practices, with strategies such as vertical integration and conglomeration becoming twinned with the emergence of new, digitally native providers of audiovisual content. Using a case study of “Carpool Karaoke,” this chapter will explore how changes in distribution strategies have reshaped the media industries, impacting on programming, marketing, and the globalization of content.
